E-VLS from JCDecaux is a hybrid self-service bicycle.
The user has a portable and personal battery that he recharges at home or at work and that he inserts into the bicycle, for a more comfortable journey. Its autonomy is approximately 10 kilometers; five LEDs on the battery indicate its charge level. A smartphone application connected by Bluetooth can offer a multitude of additional services (guidance, journey tracking, charge level, route customization, etc.). The bicycle remains usable without a battery like a classic self-service bicycle.
i&D was in charge of the mechanical technical development of the product envelope of this battery pack.
E-VLS is now used in many cities including Paris, Brussels and Lyon.
